1 Classic Novel Book Report Name: __________ Class: STUDENT EXPECTATIONS FOR THE BOOK REPORT: DIRECTIONS: Now that you have read the classic piece of literature think about what theme flows throughout that book. Is it a simple theme or more complicated? How would you explain or retell the book to a child reading at a 2 nd or 3 rd grade level? Your mission will be to make your classic novel in a book that a 2 nd or 3 rd grader or lower level child could read. Below are the mechanic guidelines and on the back is what each page should look like. EXPECTATIONS: 1.Final Copy ~ Every item must be typed in a size 14-18 font (Large for title) 2.Binding ~ The book must be in bound in a supply other than staples. 3.Color ~ Each page must have at least 3 colors. Think about how inviting children’s books really are? * Special Features: At least 4 of the pages need to have a special feature. (touch/feel, pop-out, pop-up, etc) 4. Paper/Size ~ The paper size of your book should be no larger than 8 ½ X11 (Printer Paper) Construction paper is fine. 5. Final Form ~ Should follow the guidelines for each page and be in order according the specs on the back. 6. Page Numbers ~ Be sure to have page numbers starting with one on the author page. You have 20 pages minimum to retell the story. Due Date: March 23 rd

2 Page Layout for the Book Report: Be sure to follow all the guidelines below for the report Be sure to plan this out well. It will only help with the final copy. Cover Page: Recreate the cover of your book. This should have a new title and say on the cover the original author and rewritten and adapted by with your name. Dedication Page: The following page should be dedicated to someone and state that. No Picture required. Author Page : On this page have a paragraph that describes the original author and then a paragraph that describes you. This would include personal (hobbies, schooling, etc) Book Pages: All the pages that follow the author page will be your book. You must have a minimum of 10 pages to explain your story and no more than 20 total. Each page should have words that tell the story and a picture. Keep in mind you will need to have color. REMEMBER YOU DONT’ HAVE TO TELL THE WHOLE STORY, JUST THE THEME. The End: Your final written page will be a page that says the end. Back Cover Page: The book will need to have a back cover. Also keep in mind that the book will need to be bound will a supply other than staples. Think about how you will do this.
