3 WORKING ISSUE TEAMS: Community Gardens 2009 FARM to FORK SUMMIT WIT: Community Gardens Community gardens offer a well- develop, well-researched, cost- effective option for shovel ready direct action, with a track record going back to the Victory Gardens of the 1940s and earlier. They offer hands-on, outdoor education about sustainability, stewardship, and food production. They provide direct increased access and exposure to foods that can establish positive life- long health habits.

12 WORKING ISSUE TEAMS: Community Gardens 2009 FARM to FORK SUMMIT Game Changer rationale Wonderful things are happening in Community Gardens in North Carolina. All North Carolinians should have access to participate. Several key gardens are already successful hubs. All gardeners should have easy access to a hub garden.

13 WORKING ISSUE TEAMS: Community Gardens 2009 FARM to FORK SUMMIT Game Changer implementation 1.Identify & map existing gardens so these can be networked and supported 2.Identify regions without demo gardens & partner efforts to create new hub sites 3.Pursue active support and funding 4.Develop statewide government policies and planning guidelines ( Just beginning ideas)
