Microscopes…..
2
Types….. 1 – Compound Light 2 – Transmission Electron (TEM) 3 – Scanning Electron (SEM)
3
Compound Light….. Uses a beam of light to illuminate your object
4
Eyepiece Body Tube Nosepiece High Power Objective Low Power Objective Stage Clips Diaphragm Light Coarse Adjustment Knob Stage Arm Fine Adjustment Knob Base
5
Part that you look through Maintains proper distance between eyepiece and objective. Holds objectives and changes magnification Magnifies by 40x Magnifies by 4x Holds the slide in place Controls the amount of light. Source of illumination Focus on the outline of the object Supports the slide being viewed Supports the body tube Focus on detail of the object Supports the microscope
6
TEM Uses a beam of HIGH ENERGY electrons to illuminate your object. –Electrons actually go through your object
7
SEM Uses a beam of lower energy electrons to illuminate your object. –Electrons bounce off the object and create a 3 “D” image
8
Total Magnification….. How many time your object is magnified by all lenses on the scope Total Mag. = magnification of eye piece x magnification of objective lens –LOW POWER …………10 x 4 = 40 –MEDIUM POWER…….10 x 10 = 100 –HIGH POWER…………10 x 40 = 400
