1 Attendance Statement Messick Adult Center attendance policy has been developed to ensure that our students progress to the next level and be successful in obtaining their High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma. 2 Drop from Roll Policy: When absent 8 hours (4 days) from a full semester course, and 4 hours (2 days) from a quarter course, the student will be dropped from roll. To re-enter, the student must complete the re-entry process. The student will need to contact: Dr. Lowe at 416-4887 for re- entry information.

3 Tardiness Policy (change) Students can be excluded from class if they are tardy greater than 30 minutes. Any time tardy up to 29 minutes will be timed and counted against drop from roll attendance.

4 ACADEMIC GRADING SCALE: The following grading scale is used by all Shelby County Schools; 93-100 A Excellent 84-92 B Good 75-83 C Average 71-74 D Low Average Below 70 F Failure

Clothing and accessories such as t-shirts, backpacks, patches, jewelry, and notebooks must not display (1) racial or ethnic slurs/symbols, (2) gang affiliation, (3) vulgar, subversive, or sexually suggestive images; nor should they promote products such as alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs. 7. 11 Messick Adult Center Dress Code 8. Sleepwear, pajama pants, undershirts (t-shirts style or “wife beaters”) and/or house shoes cannot be worn in school.

13 Messick Adult Center Dress Code The administration reserves the right to determine whether the student’s attire is within the limits of decency, modesty, and safety. In matters of opinion, the judgment of the principal and administrators shall prevail.

14 Messick Adult Center Dress Code Any student not dressed in accordance with the policy must correct his/her attire on the spot. If this is not possible, the student will be subject to the following consequences: 1. The student may be dismissed for the day without earning credit for the classes missed. 2. Repeat offenders may be dismissed from the program for one or more semesters.

15 1. Profane language of any kind is not permitted in the school building or school grounds. -Verbal warning will be given for first offense -If extreme and/or disruptive, students will be asked to leave the premises…

16 2. Fighting and other disruptive activities will lead to immediate dismissal from the program… ZERO TOLERANCE

17 3. When SCS personnel have probable cause to suspect that a student has consumed or is in possession of alcohol, drugs, or an illegal weapon. ZERO TOLERANCE

18 4. No food or drink is permitted in the classroom…

19 5. All cellular phones and other electronic devices are to be turned off upon entering school…

20 6. Smoking is not permitted in school buildings or on campus!

21 7. Embarrassing, harassing, threatening, or talking down to instructors, staff, or other students is cause for immediate dismissal! ZERO TOLERANCE

22 8. Students are not allowed to leave the building and re-enter. Students who leave the building prior to the end of instruction without permission will be give no credit for the day!
