The church’s identity The people of God (1 Pet. 2:9-10) The body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23, Col. 1:18, Acts 9:4- 5) The community of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19; 2 Cor. 6:16)

Jesus’s mission Anointed by the Spirit (Luke 3:21-22; 4:18-19) Led by the Spirit (Luke 4:1) Empowered by the Spirit (Luke 11:20; Matt. 12:28)

The church’s mission Participating in Jesus’s ongoing ministry (Acts 1:1) Waiting on the Spirit (Acts 1:4-5, 8) Led by the Spirit (Acts 11:15-17; 16:7-10) Empowered by the Spirit (Acts 4:29-31; 28:30-31; I Thess. 1:4-5) Gifted by the Spirit (1 Cor. 12:4-11)

The church’s mission The church glorifies the Father by participating in the ongoing ministry of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Of course, ministry deserves our best—all that we have to offer. But it also demands more than our best, more than anything we have to offer. To participate in the ongoing ministry of Jesus, to do what the Father is doing, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Only through the Holy Spirit’s directing and empowering us can we fulfill our calling.. -- Stephen Seamands

When we are spiritually free, we do not have to worry about what to say or do in unexpected, difficult circumstances. When we are not concerned about what others think of us or what we will get for what we do, the right words and actions will emerge from the centre of our beings because the Spirit of God, who makes us children of God and sets us free, will speak and act through us. -- Henri Nouwen
