English We will be using two different books to support our learning to write – Angelica Sprocket’s Pockets and What happens when….? Our main learning focus will be to learn to say and write sentences, sounding out words and spelling them independently using phonics, and remembering capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Maths We will be following the national curriculum to develop understanding of number (we learn numbers to 100 in Year 1); additive reasoning (adding and subtracting); geometric reasoning (shapes and measurements). ICT We learn to log on, open programmes, use the keyboard and type. We will be working towards making a multi-media presentation with text, images and sound. History We are exploring how life has changed over the last century – understanding the passage of time and that life for grandparents and great-grandparents was quite different in some ways but the same in others. We will look at how toys, clothes, transport and leisure activities have changed, and how playpark equipment now is different from 100 years ago. Theme: Explore Geography We will cover Geography during the next half of term. Science We will learn about our bodies and the names of the main parts of the body. We will explore our senses and which part of the body is linked to which sense. We will observe how summer ends and autumn starts, and the differences between the two seasons. We will plant some bulbs ready for the spring. Art We will draw and paint self portraits Design Technology We will explore which features of climbing frames we like the best and make models of our favourite designs. We will explore which materials are best for our models. Six Entitlement and Enjoyment Factors: 1. Coach Visit: not this half term 2. Local Walk: to the play park 3. Use of school grounds: for the climbing frame and our ‘allotment’ and flower boxes 4. Special Guest: later this term 5. Theme Day: later this term 6.
