4 JUNIOR HIGH PRE-REGISTRATION The counselors will be at the Junior High campuses to Pre-Register students on the following dates: Feb 25 th – FJHFeb 26 th – BJH Feb 27 th – DPJH March 19 th – DWJH The 8th graders will enter their electives into the computer at their junior high after the NC counselors visit their campus on the above dates.

5 SCHEDULES Schedules reflect 7 classes. If a student chooses to enroll in a flex class, their schedule will have 8 classes. Flex classes meet 3 days a week (Tues, Wed, Thurs) from 7:25-8:40 am March 25, 2013 – Application for Flex Classes opens online

11 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TAKING ADVANCED CLASSES Grade of 80 or above in the preceding honors class, or 90 or above in the preceding general class. Recommendation of the teacher. Application Process for AP Human Geography.

12 HOW TO EARN A CREDIT A credit is earned when a student successfully completes a course with a grade of 70 or above. A student’s schedule reflects seven classes each semester; therefore, a student has the opportunity to earn 3.5 credits per semester, 7 for the year. Additional credits can be earned by taking a flex class.

14 PROGRESS REPORTS North Campus will provide academic information routinely to parents or guardians in three ways: 1.Students will receive a report card at the end of each six weeks. 2.Students will receive a progress report with student’s averages in all classes after the third week of every six week period for delivery to parents or guardians. 3.Skyward Family Access – online information system.

15 CAUSES OF FAILURE Research has shown that academic failure at the ninth grade level is caused by the following: Failure to do homework Attendance Failure to ask for assistance when falling behind Removal from class for disciplinary or other reasons (ISS or DAEP).

16 Mandatory Flex Class A student entering the ninth grade who failed more than one core class during his or her eighth grade year shall be required to enroll in a flex period class assigned by the principal or designee.

18 New STAAR Assessment Incoming 9 th grade students graduating under the recommended plan will potentially take 15 EOC tests. ELA -English I, English II, English III Math - Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II Science - Biology, Chemistry, Physics Social Studies -World Geography, World History, U.S. History

19 New STAAR Assessment The new tests will be significantly more rigorous. Students will need to meet a cumulative score in each of the 4 core subjects for graduation. Student must meet a minimum score on individual tests in order to count in the cumulative score.
