3. Descriptive writing Option 1: In The Great Gatsby, the billboard of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg dominates the valley of ashes. Look at the beginning of Chapter 2 where the billboard is first described to see how Fitzgerald uses that description to create an ironic commentary. Then consider the landscape here. Look for a billboard (perhaps in your town or on your drive to school) that seems ironic. Describe the landscape and the billboard to suggest an ironic commentary on the scene you depict.
