What is case management? Coordinated and collaborative effort to resolve student concerns and complaints Holistic assessment of students’ needs Centralized point of contact that allows the institution to speak with “one voice” Minimizes the use of the “shot gun” approach to problem resolution

Factors impacting the expanding role of case management Increase in the number of students with psychological disorders and other issues Increase in the number of non-traditional and returning students Lack of information and knowledge of first generation students Increase in the number of students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds Increase in the number of veterans entering higher education

Case Management in Practice Meet with students face-to-face Gather information from faculty, staff and others for clarification and feedback Understand the desired outcome from the student’s perspective Communicate to faculty/staff what the student’s expectations are Resolve problem/refer as appropriate/create report

Case Management in Practice Educating the Campus community: Faculty and staff through Staff Senate CULTA Faculty Senate Collaborate with SGA Chairs and Deans Others as appropriate
