2 What is a narrative essay? To write a narrative essay, you’ll need to tell a story (usually about something that happened to you) in such a way the audience learns a lesson or gains insight. Anecdotal Experiental Personal

3 A narrative should… Contain parts of a story Introduction, plot, setting, characters, climax, conclusion Have a purpose/clear point of view “I” is acceptable!!! Dialogue Be descriptive!

4 Essay Requirements Minimum of 5 paragraphs, but may be longer. Make sure your “story” is complete. MLA format Topic: Che Guevara tells of his journey in The Motorcycle Diaries. Think about a trip you went on or a life event that has had an impact on your life in some way. Write a narrative essay explaining this event and how it influenced you.

5 Brainstorming A trip/place you visited Starting over: new school, house, city Time that you learned something… Now choose two events from your brainstorm list and fill out a 5 Ws graphic organizer on a separate sheet of paper. Use this brainstorm to write your essay
