The Water Cycle Grade 7 Science

Goal I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from.

What are the 3 “tion” words in the water cycle? Evaporation, condensation, and precipitation

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. Evaporation : liquid water which changes from liquid to gas, or water vapor (usually when heated)

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. Condensation: When water as a gas (water vapor) cools and collects as liquid water droplets again. This can also look like clouds.

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. Precipitation: when the water droplets in the atmosphere come down as rain, snow, hail or sleet.

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. What are the 2 sources of fresh water? Ground water and surface water

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. Ground water is precipitation which has collected on the ground Ex: lakes, ponds, rivers

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. Surface waters filters down through the layers of soil and rock. It eventually reaches what is called the water table.

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. The water table is a level underground where soil and rock is completely saturated (full of) with water.

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. The water at and below the water table is called ground water.

LEACHING Water seeps down, carrying important chemicals which plants need to live. Some plants have adapted by growing long branching roots deep into the soil, which suck the chemicals back up to the surface.

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. Here is a Brainpop video on ground water. https://www.brainpop.com/science/earthsystem/ground water/ https://www.brainpop.com/science/earthsystem/ground water/

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. Activity Divide class into 6 groups Each group has a topic: 1. Evaporation 2. Condensation 3. Precipitation 4. Surface water 5. Ground water 6. Leaching.

Goal: I can explain how the water cycle purifies water, and where our sources of fresh water come from. You must… 1. Draw a picture of your topic. 2. Write a brief explanation (1 paragraph maximum) of your topic. 3. You can include labels in your picture if you want.
