2
Immigration We do not believe in the support of immigration. Illegal immigration results to overcrowding & increased load on public transit, parks and other places where most people usually go The number of illegal immigrants deported doubled to almost 400,000 and nearly half of the immigrants deported were convicted criminals Judicial issues will start to arise once these immigrants commit a crime and they prefer to leave the country instead of being responsible for their offense
3
National Debt We believe that taking away from military spending will reduce the national debt. If the US were to cut 15.5% of military funding we would save 100 billion dollars annually Cutting the funding by 15.5% is a small amount and you can still have enough money to make public higher education tuition-free ($60 billion), fix all of America’s bridges ($20.5 billion), provide high-quality pre-school to every American child ($9.8 billion), and still have money left over
4
Education We support mandatory early childhood education and we believe teacher tenure should not be eliminated Tenure protects teachers from being fired for personal, political, or other non-work related reasons. Before tenure, teachers could be dismissed when a new political party took power or a principal wanted to make room to hire his friends. Women were dismissed for getting married, becoming pregnant, wearing pants, or being out too late in the evening The promise of a secure and stable job attracts many teachers to the teaching profession, and eliminating teacher tenure would hamper teacher recruitment
5
Energy Sources We believe that the use of wind power will reduce co2 admissions and create a better future for the planet. The cost of wind energy has come down 85 percent in the last 20 years... In 2002, wind power cost 4 to 6 cents per kilowatt-hour, a price that is competitive with new coal- or gas-fired power plants The use of wind energy will reduce pollution and be better for the environment
6
Health Care System We do not support the nationalized health care system that would guarantee medical coverage for all citizens Supporting this health care system would cause a major increase in taxes Workers at a majority of the nation’s employers – including as many as four out of every five small businesses – would lose their current coverage, thus providing further evidence that ObamaCare is doing exactly the opposite of what Democrats promised it would do
7
Gun Control Guns detear violence and criminal actions. The people feel safer with the use of guns. Concealed handguns deter crime The right to carry concealed handguns is guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the US Constitution
8
Affirmative Action We support this because it aids people who tend to suffer from discrimination in relation to education, employment, and other minority scenarios. Creates the opportunity for diversity People from minority backgrounds are granted the same privileges as those from non-minority backgrounds Encourages social integration in educational and employment settings
9
Abortion We believe that abortion should only be allowed under certain circumstances, such as rape and being under the age of 18. Reproductive choice empowers women by giving them control over their own bodies Modern abortion procedures are safe and do not cause lasting health issues such as cancer, infertility, and mental health problems
10
Gay Rights We believe that gay marriage should be a state issue. Many people are against a nationalized law for gay marriage. They don’t want to have to pay for something they don’t believe in. The institution of marriage has traditionally been defined as between a man and a woman People should not have their tax dollars used to support something they believe is wrong. Gay marriage would entitle gay couples to typical marriage benefits including claiming a tax exemption for a spouse, receiving social security payments from a deceased spouse, and coverage by a spouse’s health insurance policy.
11
Drinking Age We believe that the drinking age should be 18, like many other countries, rather than 21. There are fewer drunk driving traffic accidents and fatalities in many countries with MLDA of 18 18 is the age of adulthood in the United States, and adults should have the right to make their own decisions about alcohol consumption. Turning 18 entails receiving the rights and responsibilities of adulthood to vote, smoke cigarettes, serve on juries, get married, sign contracts, be prosecuted as adults, and join the military - which includes risking one's life.
