4. Normal Force  F N  Support force exerted upon an object which is in contact with another stable object.  Always perpendicular to the surface.

5. Tension Force FTFTFTFT  Support force transmitted through a string when it is pulled tight by forces acting from each end.  Directed along the string and pulls equally on the objects on either end of the wire.  No equation.  Solve for it  It cancels  It is given

6. Friction Force  F f  Force exerted by a surface as object moves across it.  Opposes the motion of the object.

7. Air Resistance Force  F air  Special type of friction force which acts on objects as they travel through air  Opposes the motion of the object.  Usually neglected because very small.  Important for objects traveling at high speeds (sky diver or skier) or those with large surface areas
