Electron Transport

ATP Synthesis 1.Electrons are transferred from NADH, through a series of electron carriers, to O2. 2.Transfer of electrons bycarriers generates a (H+) gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane. 3. H+ diffuses back across the inner mitochondrial membrane, ATP is synthesized.
22
How does ATP synthase work?
23
Works like a rotar. Every time three protons are pumped through the channel, the F1 subunit rotates 120 degrees.
24
What happens at the end of electron transport? The overall electron chain transport reaction is: 2 H + + 2 e- + 1/2 O 2 ---> H 2 O + energy Notice that 2 hydrogen ions, 2 electrons, and an oxygen molecule react to form as a product, water with energy released in an exothermic reaction.
