Pre-write Make sure you understand all parts of the prompt Brainstorm possible evidence from the literature that you will use in your paper Draft Intro: hook – topic – thesis Body Paragraphs: Each paragraph has its own topic sentence and direct quote (s) – and an analysis of the quote – connect this to your thesis Conclusion: Reinforce your main points and your thesis – no new information

Revise and Edit Does the essay answer the initial prompt? Does the essay have relevant evidence? Does the essay layout the evidence clearly? Are there transitions between paragraphs? Is the sentence structure varied? Is the word choice precise?
