1 The Autobiography Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) -worked as a printer and writer for several years - highly involved in public newspapers and political issues - at 42, he retired as a printer and devoted himself to science - he invented the lightning rod, bifocals and a new type of stove - confirmed the laws of electricity, contributed to the understanding of earthquakes and ocean currents - helped draft the “Declaration of Independence”

2 The Autobiography -Franklin wrote the first section of “The Autobiography” in 1771 - he wrote 3 sections total but died before he could finish the rest - it is filled with his opinions and suggestions - gives readers a list of his achievements and understanding of his character (a perfect example of an autobiography)

3 Poor Richard’s Almanack - Almanac: An annual publication containing statistical, tabular, and general information - Aphorisms: - Poor Richard’s Almanack contained information about the calendar, the sun and moon, and the weather. - This particular selection from the almanac contains “APHORISMS” - Most of Franklin’s aphorism’s are adapted from traditional or folk sayings, many of which are still used today - Drawing Conclusions: Based on “The Autobiography” and the aphorisms from “Poor Richard’s Almanack”, come up with your own impression or conclusion about Franklin’s character, personality, etc.
