Computer Network & Data Transmission Mode Presented By:- Ankit Roll No. 05
2
Computer Network is a group of computers which are connected with each other in order to share information and resources. information and resources like voice, sounds, graphics, pictures, videos, text or data. Computer Network
3
File Sharing:- It offer quick & easy way to share files directly. Instead of using a disk or USB to carry files from one computer or office to another. Resource Sharing:- All computers in the network can share resources such as printers, fax machines, modems, and scanners. Communication:- It offers various messaging services & chat room, so we can communicate with each other. Advantages of Computer Network
4
Workgroup Computing: Workgroup software like Microsoft BackOffice enables many users to contribute to a document concurrently. This allows for interactive teamwork. Flexible Access:- Networks allow their users to access files from computers throughout the network. Multiple users can also collaborate on the same project through the network. Cntd…
5
If a network file server develops a fault, then users may not be able to run application programs. A fault on the network can cause users to loose data. If the network stops operating, then it may not be possible to access various resources. Disadvantages
6
It is difficult to make the system secure from hackers, novices or industrial espionage. As traffic increases on a network, the performance degrades unless it is designed properly. Resources may be located too far away from some users. The larger the network becomes, the more difficult it is to manage. Cntd…

Local Area Network [LAN] Metropolitan Area Network [MAN] Wide Area Network [wan] Type of Networks
8
When we connect several personal computers in a limited geographical area known as LAN. It is privately owned networks that are the smallest among the available computer networks. It has very low error rates & speed of transmission is 10 mbps to 16 mbps. Local Area Network
9
Computer Network that usually spread across a campus or a city is known as MAN. Man is a group of LANs located in a city that are connected through high-speed, within a metropolitan area. For example, a company having buildinga across two sides of road. Metropolitan Area Network
10
Wide Area Network covers a wide geographic area like state or country. WAN helps connect multiple buildings or different offices of an organisation across different location in a city or across cities. Communication in a WAN is done by telephone line, satellites dishes, and radio waves to span a large geographic area. Wide Area Network
11
Data can be transferred in three different main modes, which are – Simplex Half-Duplex Duplex Data Transmission Mode
12
In this mode, the communication is unidirectional means only one of the two devices on a link can transmit, other can only receive. For example, from the computer to the printer & from all input devices (keyboard, mouse etc.). Simplex Mode
13
In this mode, communication is bi-directional which means each station can transmit and receive, but not at the same time. When one device is sending, the other can only receive, and vice-versa. For example, FAX (it can sends or receives letter but not in same time) Half-Duplex
14
Where the communication is bi-directional & both sender & receiver can transmit and receive data simultaneously. For example, FACEBOOK(you can transmit & receive message at a same time), Cell Phone & computer (download & up load files at same time). Duplex
