Unit 27 Task 3 Performer Improvement Targets
2
Introduction This task builds on your Task 2 work. You need to test your four identified weaknesses. The testing process should use standardised or bespoke tests. From this testing your results will identify two priority areas for improvement. Your eight week training plan will focus on these two priority areas only.

Testing Excellence Trait – Weakness 1/4 Trait:Winning Headers Test Name:Notational observation of a match Standardised Test: NoNormative Data:No If Not A Standardised Test Detail Method Here: I went to a match in which Russell played, I observed closely his performance and made a note of; headers competed, headers won, headers lost. From this data I created a percentage of his heading success. As there is no normative data I had to create my own rating scale. Below 50% was poor,50- 60% was below average, 60-70% was average,70- 80% was good and 80-90% was excellent Test Result 1:66.6% 4/6 headers won Test Result 1 Rating:average Test Result 2:75% 6/8 headers won Test Result 2 Rating:good Test Result 3:n/aTest Result 3 Rating:n/a Best Result:75% Best Result Rating: good

Testing Excellence Trait – Weakness 3/4 Trait:Concentration Test Name:Observation and interview with manager Standardised Test: NoNormative Data:No If Not A Standardised Test Detail Method Here: I watched the game and observed for obvious lapses of concentration from Russell like not stepping up and playing attackers onside for example. I then spoke to Russell's manager after the game and asked him his thoughts on Russell’s concentration. From what I saw and the comments of his manager I was able to give Russell a rating of concentration, which was good. It wasn’t quite excellent as his manger pointed out that there has been times during the season when Russell has lost concentration which led to opposition chances, although this was not very often. Testing Excellence Trait – Weakness 4/4 Trait:Aerobic Fitness Test Name:12 minute cooper run Standardised Test: yesNormative Data:yes If Not A Standardised Test Detail Method Here: Test Result 1:2400 metresTest Result 1 Rating:Below average Test Result 2:2250 metresTest Result 2 Rating:poor Test Result 3:2450 metresTest Result 3 Rating:Below average Best Result:2450 Best Result Rating: Below average

Improvement Target 1 (P6) Priority Excellence Trait Aerobic fitness Baseline Test Result 2450m Specific TargetTo reach a score of 3000m on the 12 minute cooper run within the 8 week time period. MeasurableAn increase of 700m in 8 weeks. Agreed UponMe and Russell discussed this target after his testing and we both agreed that it was a suitable target for Russell to achieve. RealisticIt’s a realistic target as it’s a moderate gradual increase of about 100m a week across the 8 weeks. Time BasedBaseline test (WB 12/01):2450m Review (WB 09/02):2700m Complete (WB 09/03):3050m

Improvement Target 1 – Justification (M3) Why is this target needed? What will be the performance benefit to the performer (e.g. team selection, injury prevention and representative honours)? What will be the performance benefit to the performers team(s) (e.g. unit, attack, defence and whole team benefits)?
10
Student Justification 1 Improved aerobic fitness is needed for Russell if he wants to continue to develop and progress to a higher level of football, like selection for Sussex. Aerobic fitness will impact every factor and aspect of his game, his ability to consistently attack and defend will be hindered if he has poor aerobic fitness. Russell as a left back needs to be able to get up and down the wing to go forward and assist in attack but then he has to be able to recover and run back to defender, improved aerobic fitness will allow him to be able to this comfortably for the whole game without getting too fatigued towards the end of the match, this will give him an edge when he is playing against opponents who have less aerobic fitness who will tire towards the end of the game, giving Russell the edge over them. the benefit to the whole team is that he wont become a weak link towards the end of the match.
11
Improvement Target 2 (P6) Priority Excellence Trait Flexibility Baseline Test Result 4.5cm average over 3 attempts Specific TargetHaving tested Russell, we agreed that a suitable target would be to reach the rating of above average, which is a score of 11cm- 14cm on the sit and reach test within 8 weeks. Measurable11cm in 8 weeks. Agreed UponAfter testing we agreed upon the target. RealisticIts realistic as it’s a reasonable progression of only a 7 cm increase to an above average score, he still has the opportunity to improve this score further if he makes quick progress and can move closer to the excellent score Time BasedBaseline test (WB 12/01): 4.5cm Review (WB 09/02):6.1 Complete (WB 09/03):8.4
12
Improvement Target 2 – Justification (M3) Why is this target needed? What will be the performance benefit to the performer (e.g. team selection, injury prevention and representative honours)? What will be the performance benefit to the performers team(s) (e.g. unit, attack, defence and whole team benefits)?
13
Student Justification 2 This target is needed because flexibility is needed for Russell constantly throughout a game, he needs good flexibility to take long strides when running he also needs to be flexible when he is stretching to a tackle. Having good flexibility will decrease the chance of a muscle injury as well. All these benefits of improved flexibility would contribute greatly to Russell's performance and this could help him if he wants to progress to a higher level, for example selection for Sussex. The defensive unit as a whole would become stronger as Russell will become a better tackler with improved flexibility and this makes the defence as a whole stronger as Russell can tackle opponents and will become less of a weakness on his side. Flexibility can decrease the risk and rate of injury and this is a massive benefit to Russell as without injuries he can play more regularly and consistently allowing him to build confidence and momentum which will improve his performance, and if his performances are very good than the chance of the team winning any trophies for the season is going to be higher.
