1 Figurative Language Pop Song Roar
song by: Katy Perry presentation by: Taryn Massey

2 Roar This song is by Katy Perry.This is a great song with lots of figurative language in it. This song is a true story from Katy Perry. To show how she will not give up and let anyone “push her down”.

3 Song Lyrics

4 Simile “You hear my voice, you hear that sound
LIKE thunder,gonna shake the ground” This a Simile because it is comparing two things with “like” or “as”.Like thunder, gonna shake the ground.If you heard, you could hear LIKE in the two verses.She is comparing her loud voice, to the loud thunder.It is definetly not a metaphor.Heres a hint: a Metaphor is totaly different from a Simile.

5 Metaphor “Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion” This a Metaphor. It is because it is NOT , I repeat, NOT comparing two things with “LIKE” or “AS”.A Metaphor is actually still comparing two things….. WITHOUT, “LIKE” or “AS”. If you heard “LIKE” or “AS”, that is not correct, plus i already have a Simile. So, I really don’t understand that.You can hear louder than a lion. She is comparing her roar to a lion’s roar WITHOUT ”LIKE” or “AS”.

6 Onomatopoeia {ona-mona-peia}
“ROAR,oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh” This is an Onomatopoeia. It is an Onomonatopoeia because it has “OH” in it. “Oh” is a word, but sound at the same time.It is used in a lot of books too. You can use “Oh” in a lot of WAYS. Such as… “Oh, I must have forgotten all about my pop song project!!!”. Or… in songs, like this one… Katy Perry: ROAR.

7 Assonance “I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
dancing through the fire This is an Assonance. Tiger, fighter, and fire all rhyme. An Assonance is when vowel sounds inside a word repeat. The “e” in “er” is a vowel SOUND. Remember that. Even know, “fire” has “e” at the END. BUT… it’s the vowel SOUND. Not letter. SOUND. So… it’s totally an Assonance. P.S. The “I” sound goes with it too.
