3. Beginning  She began writing music lyrics at the age of 14  Began singing songs for other musicians  Miliyah first started out by doing different commercials and auditions. Eventually she landed her first gig on a Sony commercial during high school

4. Genre  She aims for middle ground  Uses Hip/Hop and Rock as a base  Also considers herself urban, which started in the 1970’s and is a combination of R&B, Hip/Hop and electric dance music

5. Dissemination  She combines different Western Styles of music. This includes hip/hop and R&B. This ultimately helps her create her own innovative style of music  She also samples music from other artists which are Lauren Hill and Mary J Blige

6. Traditional Japanese Influences  Native singer Utada Hikaru. Hikaru had three of her albums listed in the top ten and one of her singles reached #2 worldwide  Miliyah eventually earned the nickname, “Post Utada Hikaru” because of their similar charismatic attitudes and similar lyrical styles
