The Rise Of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was built by East Berlin to stop their people from leaving for West Berlin. It was built the night of August 12 through the morning of August 13, 1961.

Living With the Berlin Wall
According to history.com, by the 1980’s, this system of walls and electrified fences extended 28 miles through Berlin and 75 miles around West Berlin, separating it from the rest of East Germany

Taking the Wall Down On November 9, 1989, East Germany announced an easing of travel restrictions to the West, and many demanded passage though the wall. Ecstatic Berliners climbed over the Wall. November 10, 1989, East German troops began tearing down the wall.

The Berlin Wall Today Today, there is not much of the Berlin Wall left standing. To mark where it once was, there is a double row of bricks.
