Optionals Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen Europe Volendam and Zaanse Schans: Optional half-day excursion to the heart of the Dutch countryside, visiting the picturesque fishing village of Volendam and the living and working neighborhood of Zaanse Schans, re-created to look like an old Dutch village. Continues down the winding, cobblestone streets, past charming shops and crooked houses. Includes cheese and clog-making demonstrations as well as a visit to a windmill. Elsinore-Kronborg Castle: Walk in the footsteps of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, on an optional half-day journey to the medieval Danish town of Elsinore. Includes a scenic drive along the coast from Copenhagen to Elsinore. Here, we’ll visit the famous 400-year-old Kronborg Castle. On the guided tour, see the castle’s maze of secret passageways, the Great Hall, ancient silk and woolen tapestries, and the king and queen’s chambers. Hear about the “sleeping ghost” of Holger Danske, famous Viking chief and Danish hero; according to legend, peace will preside in Denmark only as long as he slumbers in the castle’s dungeon! Concludes with free time in Elsinore before returning to Copenhagen. Optional 1 Optional 2

Money Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen Europe Spending Plan (1 € = $0.91) Day-to-day expenses There’s a lot to experience while traveling abroad, which is why we recommend budgeting $40 to $60 in spending money for each day overseas. That amount should cover shopping, eating and the rest of your day-to-day expenses, but keep in mind that it is enough on average. If you’re a particularly talented shopper, you may wish to budget more. Optional excursions You’ll have free time on your trip to make your time abroad truly your own. If you’re the type that likes to explore, the optional excursions offered as a part of this year’s program offer quaint looks into the country- sides of the Netherlands and Denmark. They require booking before you leave the states but may be booked on the spot and must be paid for in cash. Tipping Money for tips should also be built into your Budget but separately to ensure you can thank your on-tour staff without cutting into your basic travel funds. EF suggests the following amounts, in local currency: - $6 per day for the Tour Director - $3 per day for the coach driver - $1-2 per day for local guides Currency exchange Denmark remains on the Krone (1DKK=$0.14) Cash can be exchanged for local currency at a number of locations on tour, including airports, exchange bureaus, banks and more. In many cases, ATM withdrawals offer the lowest rates, but be sure to check in with your bank and let them know you’ll be traveling overseas and to make sure your ATM card will work abroad. Many major U.S. banks have ATM partnerships with other global banks which allow you to withdraw cash and skip out on the ATM fees. Check with your bank.
