2. About Peter the Great Born: June 9,1672, Moscow. Died: February 8, 1725, St. Petersburg at the age of 52 He was crowned Tsar of Russia on April 27, 1682 He then became Emperor of Russia on October 22, 1721 His full name was Peter Alekseyevich Romanov His parents were Alexis I and Natalya Naryshkina Ivan the 5 th and Peter the Great ruled together before Ivan died Peter the Great was very interested in Westernization

3. Peter’s Toy Army Peter was fascinated with armies and war techniques from a young age. At the age of 13 he created his toy army of children He had a little over 300 children in his army The fort he built for this army was just a little outside of Moscow. Wars fascinated Peter and his toy army probably helped him with wars in the future.

4. Peter’s Accomplishments Peter the Great created the first Russian Navy He expanded Russian trading across seas He reformed the Russian military to one of the greatest forces in the world. He established the city of St. Petersburg Peter started to modernize and westernize Russia

5. Peter’s Children Peter the Great had two wives He had 14 children between both of them His oldest son was Alexei and he was next in line to the throne. Peter’s most important children in Russian history were:  Elizabeth of Russia  Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich of Russia  Anna Petrovna of Russia  Grand Duchess Natalia Petrovna of Russia  Grand Duke Alexander Petrovich of Russia

6. The Great Northern War A good portion of Peter’s time as Tsar was spent involved in the Great Northern War. He wanted control of the Baltic Sea, which had been taken by the Swedish Empire a half-century earlier. Because of the new reformed military system Peter the Great put in place for Russia, the Russians won the Great Northern War against Sweden.
