4 Background Started when William of Normandy conquered the Island Norman Rule ended in 1154 King Henry II took the throne The Magna Carta The Tudors took the throne The Feudal System declined

5 The problem with Henry II Henry II did not agree with the church. Henry II wanted supreme power and did not want to give any real authority to the church. He appointed his friend Thomas A’ Becket as the Archbishop of Canterbury. Becket took his job very seriously and would not side with Henry II. Henry II inadvertently had him killed.
