5 th Grade Expectations All students are expected to follow the Class Policy & Procedures Higher expectations Getting students ready for Middle School Parents will be notified when students are doing great and exceeding expectations, as well, as when students do not follow set guidelines. SLCS Code of Conduct will be enforced.

Reading Response Journals Individual to the student Allows students to demonstrate knowledge of content through multiple forms of assessment. If not completed in class, please finish for homework that night. Core content and visualization of comprehension are first priority in completing a response. Grading is focused on how well material is shown, not necessarily how colorful the page may be.

Test Folders Will be sent home as needed Please review with your child Table of Contents Each assessment requires a parent/guardian signature before getting sent back to school

Book Reports Encourage reading different genres! Guidelines and due dates located on homework page and current copy. Summary is very important. Follow directions!

Grading System The SLCS grading system for grades K-5 is a comprehensive look at the whole-child. DS- Distinguished P- Proficient DV- Developing E- Emerging

Notes from Home Please send in notes for… Absence Notes (Reasons for absence) Early Dismissals Planned Absences Change of Transportation Advanced notice is very much appreciated so we can help your child be prepared and successful!

Home & School Communication Please check your child’s planner nightly Notes will be sent home in the Daily Planner (Signature required that night!) Notes from home will be initialed when seen (if your note is not initialed or responded to, your child did not show us the note) Email is the quickest way to contact us during the school day.

Water Bottles Students are allowed to have water bottles in class during the day. ONLY water is permitted (No juices or sports drinks) SLCS encourages clear bottles to ensure that students are bringing water to class
