 Different life cycles use different modes of reproduction.  Both Binary Fission and Mitosis Produce Genetically Identical Cells.  Prokaryotes divide by binary fission, eukaryotes by mitosis.  Some chromosomes are circular while others are linear.

 ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION-involves DNA from only one parent; offspring is an exact copy (CLONE) of the parent.  SEXUAL REPRODUCTION-involves DNA from 2 parents; offspring is a genetic mix of both and is different from both parents and other offspring.

 CELL DIVISION-the process by which a cell reproduces (makes offspring cells).

 Prokaryotes reproduce by dividing asexually.  Binary Fission 3 STAGES: 1. Circular DNA copies itself  2 identical chromosomes are attached to the inner cell membrane. 2. Cell grows to 2X its normal size. 3. Cell wall forms between the 2 chromosomes and the cell splits into 2 new cells.

 Eukaryotic cells (and single-celled organisms) reproduce asexually as well via mitosis.

 Multicellular organisms result from asexual divisions of zygote (single cell made of a combined sperm and egg).  These cells not only grow larger before they divide (reproduce), but eventually will become specialized for a specific set of tasks (DIFFERENTIATION).
