2 Mutations  Mutations occur when cells divide and copy themselves incorrectly. This is a source of variation but not a significant one. Mutations can either harm a cell or help it. Mutations can be passed on to offspring.

3 Mutations  There are three types of mutations. The first occurs when there are too many nucleotide bases in DNA. A possible outcome from a mutation can be cancer. Which is when a cell copies itself incorrectly and at a dangerous speed.

4 Mutations  The last two mutations occur when there are not enough nucleotides or they are out of order.

5 Another source of variation  Sexual reproduction is the main source of variation. It is the main source because there are an almost infinite number of outcomes. Variation through sexual reproduction can cause such great variation because when gametes divide, their daughter cells are not completely identical to their parent cells.

6 variations  Basically you can get variation when traits of off spring are affected by mutation or combining gametes any get any number of results
