The Iditarod started in 1973. Why? In 1925 there was a big disease in Nome Alaska called Diphtheria. They couldn’t fly planes or helicopters so they real the medicine from Anchorage to Nome and saved many lives.

Due to the snow this years snow in Alaska they had to start in Fairbanks. They end in Nome 17 checkpoints There are approximately 1049 miles

They start with 16 dogs. They used huskies and Alaskan Malamute. The dogs ware booties. They used harnesses

My musher has won 1 award PenAir Spirit Alaskan Award- Presented to the first musher to reach McGrath GCI Dorothy G. Page Halfway Award- Presented to the first musher to reach The halfway checkpoint which this year was Iditarod Red lantern Award- Presented to the last musher
