Summary Why did the Crusades have positive and negative effects? (Provide examples)
11
1. A chance to leave the manor. 2. An opportunity to gain power & wealth 3. Fight a war “for God” 4. Kill any other non-Christians
12
The Crusaders can be considered hypocrites because Christianity teaches that “thou shall not kill”, however they are celebrating the murder of Muslims and Jews.

Muslims still consider Saladin a hero because he was able to recapture Jerusalem from the Christians.

Impact of the Crusades on Medieval Life POSITIVENEGATIVENEUTRAL Increased trade between Europe & Middle East. New goods such as spices (sugar), fabrics (cotton), and perfume are introduced to Europe. Caused an increase in exploration of foreign lands. Increased religious hatred/mistrust between Muslims and Christians (as well as Christians and Jews). King’s power increased. More taxes on the people The power and importance of the Pope was temporarily increased.
