Types of Dictionaries B. Types of Dictionaries in terms of content: 1- General Dictionaries: normal dictionaries that give you information about the most common words. - Disadvantage: They don’t include new words until they become common.

2. Specialized Dictionaries They are useful for a special group of people (e.g. children/Advanced learners). Useful for special fields of knowledge (e.g. medicine/ computer sciences/ chemistry). OR: They concentrate on one part of language (e.g. idioms/abbreviations) Translating between different varieties of one language (e.g. British -American) Having a special organization (thesaurus: a dictionary listing words with all their synonyms (i.e. words with similar meaning.

C. Types of Dictionaries in terms of the language 1. Monolingual dictionaries: All entries come in one language 2. Bilingual Dictionaries: Each entry has translations of words in another language. 3. Multilingual dictionaries: Each entry has translations of words more than two languages.
