1 Home Study Set Up Learning Objective: To plan a creative piece of writing on the topic of Crime and Punishment. I can explore different types of creative writing. I can analyse the features of different styles of writing. I can plan my own piece of creative writing.

2 Different Styles of Writing In groups you are going to explore 3 different styles of writing to help give you inspiration for your own creative piece. You are going to discuss and analyse the different features of the text. 1. A letter of forgiveness 2. News article on the murder of Stephen Lawrence 3. An extract from the novel ‘Terror Kid’.

3 Text Analysis Features of the Text: What is the text about? Briefly summarise. What type of text is it? (informative, persuasive, entertaining? Who wrote it? Who is it written for? (general audience, specialist, younger?) How are ideas linked? (E.g. connectives, pronouns such as he) Does it contain short or long sentences? Why? Is it formal or colloquial? For each text you need to create a mind map on your sugar paper and answer the questions on the board. You might wish to choose a different colour pen for each text. Read the texts together as a group and spend time discussing the questions and jot down your ideas. Your Opinion: Did you enjoy reading the text? Why/why not? Which text did you prefer and why? What features of the writing kept your interest? How did you feel reading the text?
