Force Diagrams What forces act on these objects?
2
Force A force is a PUSH or a PULL. Gravity Throwing Shoving Punching Kicking Friction Here are two more you may not have thought of...
3
Force Forces are interactions between objects. Sometimes the objects have to be in contact but sometimes the objects can be at a distance. Gravity Throwing Shoving Punching Kicking Magnetism Friction Electric charge contact forces distance forces
4
Force Forces are measured in units called Newtons (N). Use the spring scale to find out what a force of 1 Newton feels like.
5
Force Forces have a magnitude (how strong)and a direction so we can represent forces with vectors (arrows). 5N 2N
6
Force A force diagram shows all the forces acting on an object. We represent the object itself as a dot.. 5N 2N
7
Force Balanced forces cancel each other out. The sum of the forces, or NET force is zero. Unbalanced forces don't cancel out. The net force is something other than zero.. 5N 2N Force diagram Balanced or unbalanced Net force

Force Diagrams Put a piece of paper between you and your partner. Conduct an arm wrestle. Draw a force diagram showing the forces acting on the paper.
