5
What is MOCRO? Manually Operated Compact Reflow Oven What’s the point? Who would buy this thing, anyway? So, what’s the catch?
6
What else is out there? If cost is an issue, you can get this oven for under $20,000! This series of ovens start at $23,500!
7
Problems with Reflow Ovens that are on the market: Expensive Not Space Efficient
8
MOCRO is the answer! Cost is a mere $500. Size of whatever toaster oven you want. User profiles can be saved. Last profile used can be recalled. Perfect for prototyping.
9
CONSTRAINTS Technical/Practical
10
Technical Constraints Temperature Range MOCRO must operate from 25°C-260 °C Temperature Accuracy MOCRO must maintain the temperature set point within a 25 °C process band. Heating Rate MOCRO must not allow the heating rate to exceed 4 °C /sec. Wetting Time MOCRO must ensure that adequate wetting time is maintained. Interface MOCRO must use a stand-alone user interface.
11
Practical Constraints Health and Safety Manufacturability
12
TRADEOFF Relay vs. Triac
13
MECHANICAL RELAY Advantages: High power Disadvantages: Expensive Coil draws high current Large size TRIAC Advantages: Low cost Small size High switching frequency (compared to relay) Disadvantages: Requires heat sink
