Alliteration Definition: The repetition of the same sounds or of the same kinds of sounds at the beginning of words or in stressed syllables. Why is alliteration important to understand? Alliteration is important because it lets the poet stress words to make them stand out. It is also important because it lets the poem flow with a certain rhythm.

What is a Rhyme Scheme? Definition: The pattern of rhyme between lines of a poem or song. It is usually referred to by using letters to indicate which lines rhyme. It is also consistent throughout the poem. Example: AABBAA

Individual Work On a piece of paper write a two stanza poem about nature, each stanza containing four lines. There should be at least 4 examples of alliteration in your poem. Use the first letter of your first name to see which letter you will use. For example: Linda = The letter L (Little life's lovely lies) Also, write the rhyme scheme of your poem at the end. Example: AABBA

To practice alliteration and rhyme schemes Complete the poem regarding nature at home. -The poems need to have at least 4 stanzas including the 2 already written in class, and 8 examples of alliteration using the first letter of your first name. - Once completed underline the words that rhyme in the poem and also label the rhyme scheme in AABBAA format.
