Cognitive Symptoms Racing thoughts High distractibility Grandiosity Inflated self-esteem

Somatic Symptoms Reduced need for sleep Dramatically increased energy

Behavioral Symptoms Gregariousness High energy and activity level Impulsivity

Types Bipolar I disorder –At least one manic episode (high likelihood of a major depressive episode as well) Bipolar II disorder –At least one hypomanic episode –At least one major depressive episode –No full-blown manic episodes Cyclothymia –At least two years of hypomanic and depressive episodes, but no major manic or depressive episodes
