Two Parts Specification of task The task is the activity or assignment the students are asked to do. Student responses to the task are what is assessed. Performance criteria a specified method of evaluating student performance on the tasks. Methods could include: assignment of points for the "correctness" of responses, checklists of response features, and rating scales...

Good alternative assessments: Cover the desired content and skills Have good performance tasks Have good performance criteria Are equitable and fair Lead to positive consequences Are cost (energy/time) effective
