3 Baseline Data… Students Identified as Below Grade Level on the Beginning of the Year Reading Assessments Kindergarten: 26 Students- 37% are Below Grade Level 1 st Grade: 26 Students- 35% are Below Grade Level 2 nd Grade: 46 Students- 68% are Below Grade Level 3 rd Grade: 42 Students- 56% are Below Grade Level 4 th Grade: 40 Students- 63% are Below Grade Level 5 th Grade: 29 Students- 45% are Below Grade Level 50% of ALL Students are Below Grade Level Based on Beginning of the Year Assessments Reading as a Priority in Year 1

4 Meeting the Needs of Our Students… Early identification of students for gifted screening. All students performing above level on baseline assessments are being screened for gifted. Providing enrichment and remediation for all students, including the addition of PE, Music, Computers, and STEM classes as electives. Immediate and intensive interventions for all students scoring below level on the beginning of the year assessments. Critical review of all students receiving ESE services, ELL services, and those in the RtI process to ensure that the needs of all students are being appropriately addressed school-wide.

Action Steps: Positive Culture Plan Greeting every student at the door; Community Meeting; and Park Ridge Pledge… GOLD Behavior Expectations, Celebrating Success Parents & Community Outreach Meet & Greet; SAC Meetings; Community Forums; VIP Event; Invitations to Community Leaders; Parent Events

6 Year 1 Priorities… Second Priority… Increase Reading Proficiency Increase state percentile ranking from 6%tile to 20%tile Action Steps: A research-based, aggressive reading instructional program designed to supplement to core reading curriculum Strategic targeting of reading interventions Focus on primary literacy intervention in Phonics and Phonemic Awareness Embedding high yield reading strategies in all content area instruction Discovery Education Partnership- Mentorship Training Begins with grades 3-5 and selected teachers in grades K-2 ELL Intervention & ELO Program (172 ELL Students)

7 Year 1 Priorities… Technology & Professional Development Technology Upgrades Smart Bond Technology: Student Laptops Digital Classrooms: Grades 3-5 Professional Development School-wide and district professional development to ensure all staff are able to effectively implement research-based reading interventions Discovery Level 1 Training: Staff Orientation; Leadership training- STEM Team Leaders, Support Staff; and STEM Teachers Discovery Level 2 Mentor Training: Discovery trainers providing one on one job embedded professional development with teachers in grades 3-5

9 Year 2 Priorities Positive Culture Expands to Include Leadership Development Building Student Leadership Capacity Action Steps: Positive Culture Plan Continue to reinforce the expectations of the Positive Culture Plan Leader in Me Program using Covey’s 7 Habits

10 Year 2 Priorities Reading Focus Expands Based on Year 1 Data- Strategic redesign of reading interventions to address new realities Action Steps: On- going progress monitoring, data-chats with every team/teacher, I-Ready, aggressive interventions, Walk to Read to allow students to move to other classes to meet needs of all students

11 Year 2 Priorities Science Focus Expands In Year 1 the reading focus highlighted the inclusion of Science using the literacy program with Discovery. Year 2 will highlight Science as a School Improvement Goal Action Steps: Discovery Mentoring Program to be expanded to include Primary Teachers School’s environmental Science program/ School Gardening program to provide hands-on and real world connections Expanding of the use of science journals that will incorporate the 5 E model The expansion of the coding program and STEM Lab to promote more rigorous standards based instruction

12 Year 2 Priorities Math Fluency Program Expands In Year 1, Math intervention programs focused on fluency were implemented, as well as, the use of hands-on math and math manipulatives in order to build conceptual understanding. Year 2, Math interventions will continue with a more intensive focus on students for which the learning gaps have not been closed. Action Steps: Technology based interventions continue (Reflex Math) Expanding the use math journals to demonstrate understanding of complex problem solving Heavier focus on fluency standards school-wide Additional support based on Year 1 data

13 Year 2 Priorities… Technology & Professional Development Technology Upgrades Expanding technology using school technology funds to purchase additional technology for primary grades Professional Development School-wide professional development to support the implementation of math interventions and research-based curriculum Discovery Level 3 Training expands to included; the Train the Trainer support system, one-on-one mentoring for primary teachers and additional support for intermediate teachers Professional teams to design vertical school-wide curriculum plans that specifically address the needs of Park Ridge Students
