Classroom Rules 1. Follow directions the first time given. 2.Listen when someone is talking, especially the teacher. 3.Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 4.Use inside voice in the classroom. 5.Obey all school rules.

Consequences 1.First Offense – Verbal Warning 2.Second Offense – Behavior Card, working lunch 3.Third Offense – Behavior Card, working lunch, Note to Parent 4.Fourth Offense – Behavior Card, working lunch, Note to Parent, Talk with Principal * A working lunch will be enforced for failure to do classwork/homework

ARI, AMSTI, and PLTW ARI – Alabama Reading Initiative ARI is a research-based program with the goals of strengthening reading instruction in the early grades; expanding all students’ reading power and comprehension levels; and intervening effectively with struggling readers. ARI focuses on reading strategies such as guided reading and small group instruction. AMSTI – Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative AMSTI is designed to improve math and science education. Materials such as manipulatives, lab equipment, and organisms are provided to engage students in hands-on, problem-solving math and science activities. PLTW – Project Lead the Way PLTW focuses on the design process in engineering through hands- on science activities.

Homework Homework can be expected every night. Assignments are written on the board daily. It is the students’ responsibility to copy down the assignments. Homework is posted nightly on Edmodo. Homework is often started in the classroom.

Homework Homework will be checked, however, the homework grade will be determined by whether the student does the homework. Homework is to reinforce concepts introduced at school and for practice on concepts which are hard to master. Homework is required and failure to do homework will result in it being done at Recess and/or Lunch

Tests Reading Test Covers the weekly reading skills, reading vocabulary, and word skills Usually in multiple choice/short essay format Generally given on Friday Math Test Covers material taught during an unit Given at end of each unit Timed Math Fact tests may also be given on multiplication and division facts through 12

Grading Grades are taken from tests, class work, homework, class participation, and special projects. Progress reports go home approximately 4½ weeks into a grading period. Grades are based on a rubric scale of 1-4. The grades are determined according to Standard mastery. 1- Student does not understand the standard content. 2 – Student gets the content somewhat but is still needs more practice. 3 – Student meets the content standard. 4 – Students masters the content standard.

Field Trips Wetlands- Explores the importance of our wetlands; All Day Trip Trash Trip- Visits to Recycling Center, Waste to Steam Plant, and the Animal Shelter highlight this all day trip. Panoply- Huntsville’s Art Festival; most of the day

Miscellaneous Information Farley has been selected to participate in a Federal free meal program. Every student at Farley will be able to eat breakfast and lunch for FREE. No paperwork will be necessary to participate. Breakfast is served from 7:30- 8:00am. Our lunch time is from 11:59-12:29pm. Parents are welcome to join us. Scholastic Book Orders will come home periodically. Checks for these need to be made to Scholastic. We will participate in AR reading. Students are required to have 10 points each 9 weeks. We will use Modern Manuscript (D’Nealian) for our handwriting.
