What is Remembrance Day? On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 the guns of Europe fell silent. The Armistice was signed at 5am in France on November 11, 1918. Six hours later, at 11am, the war ended.

What happens on Remembrance Day?

There was complete devastation. Buildings, roads, trees and all natural life simply disappeared. All that was left was a sea of mud. But one living thing survived and grew again. ‘Poppies’. On Remembrance Day most people wear a poppy. Why do people wear poppies?

FLANDERS FIELD In Flanders Fields where poppies grow Between the crosses, row on row That mark our place; and in the sky The larks. Still bravely singling, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved and now we lie In Flanders Fields.

Today we remember all those who have died in the World Wars, but we also think about all those who have died. Let us reflect.
