SYSTEMS OF EQUATIONS
2
SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS -Two or more linear equations involving the same variable.
3
SOLUTIONS OF SYSTEMS OF EQUATIONS - An ordered pair of numbers that satisfies both equations.
4
SOLVING SYSTEMS OF EQUATIONS There are three ways of solving systems of equations: 1)Graphing Method 2)Elimination (Adding) Method 3)Substitution Method
5
GRAPHING METHOD Steps: 1.Graph 1 st equation 2.Graph 2 nd equation 3.Determine the solution (finding where the two lines meet) (0,2)
6
FIND THE SOLUTION(S)
7
Steps 1.Line up like-terms into columns for both equations. 2.Add straight down. 3.Solve for one variable. 4.Plug in new variable value into the 1 st equation. 5.Solve for the 2 nd variable. 6. Check answers. ELIMINATION/ ADDING METHOD
8
Steps: 1.Choose an equation where the variable is isolated. 2.Plug in the equation into the second equation. 3.Solve for the 1 st variable. 4.Plug in new variable value in the second equation. 5. Solve for 2 nd variable. 6. Check answers. SUBSTITUTION METHOD
