2 Lesson 9 Reverend Tim Lovejoy ‘You’re just lucky God isn’t here’

3 Lovejoy is a protestant minister – Anglicans, of which the Church of England is a part, are Protestants. He is stereotyped as being anti-catholic (and anti- Evangelical – Ned gets on his nerves). He began life as a minister in the 70s and was full of enthusiasm and inspiration. These are religious words - in literal terms they relate to being full of the Holy Spirit (in-spir[ed]). He lost his enthusiasm in part thanks to the pettiness of Ned. He embodies many priests whose sense of vocation at ordination is challenged by the pettiness of everyday parish life. He knows his Bible but is cynical about its relevance. He has a full congregation – not very realistic!
