Benefits of a 7 Period Day Common Planning Time for both Curriculum Teams and Personalization Teams possible Better understanding and able to meet the needs of GATE and Resource students through common planning Resource students will not need to miss academic classes Can offer more choice of classes to students High level communication and collaboration within teaching team Better able to maintain high standards and expectations for all students Interdisciplinary integration and culminating activities wherever possible Aligned curriculum and instruction with standards, assessments, projects Allows for team intervention discussions and conferences for students facing social/emotional and/or academic challenges Creates a supportive learning environment for teachers and students Further develops Professional Learning Communities Allows for flexibility in creating the master schedule Helps eliminate tracking of pre-period students throughout the day

Strategic Plan Goals Children learn best in an environment that is emotionally and physically safe and supportive Students’ need for social interaction and their physical energy are qualities to be engaged and used for learning Provides school grounds and facilities that are safe, well- equipped, maintained, and realize the best use of community’s investment in them. Provide common planning time for professional learning communities. Implement classroom/school arrangements that intentionally infuse a culture that supports each student’s social/emotional well- being. Foster close relationships among students and with adults who share extended time through grade, content-area, or interdisciplinary small learning communities. Explore opportunities to make every child’s voice heard, enable students to feel they are known and they belong.

Reasons Current Facility is not Adequate for Achieving Our Vision Schreder Report: WH Site Issues Major Site Issues Classrooms 100-108 have antiquated HVAC which is in need of replacement. There is no cafeteria and a small room is utilized for eating during inclement weather. Permanent locker rooms are needed. Computer lab is inadequate for the student population. Infrastructure issues, i.e. lighting should be analyzed and addressed throughout campus. There is inadequate parking and the drop off and pick-up area is overcrowded. A parking plan should be developed for better circulation. Restrooms in need of renovation. Pod classrooms are in need of renovation (classrooms 110-115 and 200- 208). Science lab does not have water and power for experiments and is in need of renovation. Facilities need upgraded for appropriate middle school curriculum. Ancillary facilities are inadequate for student population. Teacher workroom and staff room are inadequate in size. Pod areas have water damage to the foundation creating potential structural issues. Room 110 is inadequate as an art room for the student population.

Small Learning Community 100 students per SLC instead of 25 students per 1 teacher. Students in an SLC can truly feel that they belong and will have a closer relationship with their peers and teachers. The common Community Space can have multiple functions. Science Math Core 2Core 1 Community Space

The Community Space could replace the locker hall. It could be a casual space with soft furniture where students and teachers could “hangout” together. Each community space could be customized by each SLC giving the group a sense ownership of the space. The space could be used for lunch, projects, tutoring, or group gatherings.
