NATIVE AMERICANS Created by Jessica Ivey
2
The Hopi are natives of Arizona, so they lived in the Southwest. Although the area is hot and dry, the Hopi were still able to farm. Because of the difficulties of the land, Hopi had to adapt, or adjust to their environment, to survive.
3
They planted corn, beans, squash, cotton, and tobacco. They raised turkey for meat and hunted deer.
4
Men wore kilts or breechcloths. Women wore knee-length cotton dresses called mantas. The Hopi people wore moccasins made of deerskin.
5
Hopi people lived in adobe houses called pueblos, which are multi-story houses made of adobe (clay and straw baked into hard bricks) and stone. They were sometimes called Pueblo people because of their homes. Each adobe unit was home to one family, like an apartment building. Hopi people used ladders to reach the upstairs apartments.
