Outline for Comparative Analysis I. Introduction: What are you going to talk about? What is it that YOU have to say about the comparison you are going to make in your essay? That’s what goes here. A. What type of evidence are you going to use to support this topic/comparison? B. Why should it be interesting to read? Is there a global message that a reader should gain from reading your essay?

Evidence/Textual Analysis (+/- 3 paragraphs/examples from text) II. – IV. Evidence to show comparison. What is the comparison? (Topic Sentence/Claim) A. Textual Evidence (Quote) B. Commentary About Textual Evidence 1. What does the quote say (between the lines, rephrase, interpret). 2. How does it demonstrate your original topic/argument as defined in your Introduction? 3. Why might it be interesting to look at the comparison?

Conclusion V. What did the evidence you used show? A. How will you draw together the different threads of the essay? B. What has the reader learned from the essay? C. What is the larger conclusion about your two subjects that you have created?
