Lesson 2 Section 1 Grammar B: Question Formation
3
How do you form yes-no questions in English? Do you like ice cream? Is it cold? Is it vanilla?
4
In Spanish: To ask a question that may be answered “sí” or “no”, just raise the pitch of your voice at the end of the question. The subject, if included, can go before or after the verb. ¿Eres extrovertido? ¿La profesora es simpática? ¿Es simpática la profesora?
5
Answering You can answer a question like this with sí or no. You say the word no twice in your answer: once to mean no and another time to mean not. ¿Eres atlético? Sí, soy atlético. No, no soy atlético.
6
Listen to the sentences. If the sentence is a statement, write a period, “.”, on the board. If the sentence is a question, write a question mark, “?”, on the board.
7
What question words have we learned so far? ¿Cómo? ¿Cuándo? ¿Cuántos? ¿Qué? ¿Dónde? ¿Cuál?
8
Question Words You can ask for more information using question words. All question words have accent marks. ¿Cómo? ¿Cuándo? ¿Cuántos? ¿Por qué? ¿Qué? ¿Dónde? ¿Cuál?
9
Fill in the blank with one of the question words: 1. ¿_______ estás? (Estoy bien gracias.) 2. ¿_______ te llamas? (Me llamo Jorge.) 3. ¿De _______ eres? (Soy de Puerto Rico.) 4. ¿_______ es tu cumpleaños? (Es el 10 de enero.) 5. ¿_______ estás? (Soy un poco serio y bastante activo.) 6. ¿_______ son ellos? (Son amigos de Luisa.) 7. ¿_______ hora es? (Son las tres.)
10
Go to page 53 in the book. Do Activity 17 on your own, on a sheet of paper. On the same page and same paper, work with a partner and do Activity 18. One partner do the odd numbers and the other partner does the even numbers. Write your answers on your paper.
11
