Transnational Migration: A New Paradigm for Understanding Immigration Schiller et al.’s Thesis - not the up-rooted adopting a new country - not migrant workers (temporary stay) - RATHER: Some migrants develop networks } that span activities} their home patterns of living }and host ideologies}societies That is, for transnational migrants the norm is multiple, circular, and return migrations, rather than a single, great journey with a sharp break from their homeland.

Definition of Transmigrants (Transnational Migrants) Transmigrants are those who: a)Build social fields that cross geographic, cultural, and political borders; b)Develop and maintain multiple relationships – familial, economic, social, organizational, religious, & political; c)Depend on multiple and constant interconnections across international borders; and whose d)Identity is configured in relationship to more than one nation state
