2. Some Basics Team of 2 Students Only a single 8 ½ x 11 sheet with notes on each side is allowed per team. Each team member may bring in a non- graphing calculator Event may be an “at seat” test or a station- type exam.

3. How do you prepare your students? Regular meetings –Your Dynamic Planet team should meet at least once a week –Combine Direct Instruction, Active Learning Activities, Practice Exams –Provide students with clear goal posts—give them a specific topic to study each week and quiz them on it at the beginning of the next meeting –Prepare students individually first and then in teams.

4. What do your students need to know? Well….everything about volcanoes and earthquakes!

5. Process Skills The event should require students to accomplish some activity or activities using their knowledge of volcanoes and earthquakes and not be limited to simple factual type questions..

6. Some Examples of Process Tasks finding the epicenter of an earthquake calculating the slope of a volcano be able to draw a profile calculate seafloor spreading be able to read and use graphs and charts

Teaching resources you would use in an actual “course” in this topic Activities offered today are from Marcia Krech and John Koonz and used with their permission

8. Practice There are 8 stations set up. Stations 1-6 are sample event type stations and stations 7 and 8 offer some additional examples of topics the event covers. You will have approximately 4-5 minutes at each station. Enjoy!!
