2. SOLUTIONS Solutions are a special type of mixture in which particles (solute) are dissolved in a solvent (usually H 2 O). These particles are not permanently changed when in solution. A solution forms when a material dissolves in a liquid. The material cannot be retrieved using a filter or a screen but can be retrieved by evaporation of the solvent (H 2 O) in which it is dissolved.
