A Seminar On KV GSS, SUJANGARH Submitted in partial fulfillment For the award of the degree of BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY (Rajasthan Technical University, Kota) IN Department of Electrical Engineering Submitted To: Submitted By:- Mr.

Contents Introduction Signal Line Diagram Lighting Arrester Isolator
Insulators Circuit Breaker- SF6 CB Protective Relay Power Transformer Current Transformer Potential Transformer Wave Trap Control Room Capacitor Bank Battery Room Description

Introduction Substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission and distribution system. Substations transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse, or perform any of several other important functions At 220kV GSS, Sujangarh 220kV is stepped down to 132kV

Single Line Diagram

Lightning Arrestor A lightning arrestor is a device connected between line and earth in parallel with the overhead line. It is a safety valve which limits the magnitude of lightning and switching over-voltages at the substation. Types of Lightning Arrestor: Road Gap Expulsion Type Valve Type

Isolator Isolator is one, which can brake and make an electric circuit in no load condition. Isolators are of two types:- Single pole isolator Three pole isolator

Insulators The insulator for the overhead lines provide insulation to the power conductor from the ground so that current from conductor do not flow to earth through support. Types of Insulators: Pin Type Suspension Type Strain Type

Circuit Breaker The function of circuit breaker in the operation of power system is to prevent or limit damage during fault or overloads and to minimize their effect. SF6 circuit breakers are used at 220kV substation, Sujangarh. In SF6 CBs the contacts are surrounded by low pressure SF6 gas.

Protective Relay Its primary purpose is to detect the fault and take the necessary action. Buchholz Relay is used for transformer protection.

Power Transformer It is heart of substation. Transformer is used to step up or step down AC voltage levels. Here, at 220kV GSS 220kV is stepped down to 132kV. Two transformers of 100MVA each are used here.

Current Transformer It can be used to supply information for measuring power flows Current transformers are also used for street lighting circuits.

Potential Transformer
Potential transformer (PT) is used to transform the high voltage of a power line to a lower value The voltage transformer are classified of two type: Capacitive type Electromagnetic type

Wave Trap What it does is trapping the high frequency communication signals sent on the line from the remote substation and diverting them to the telecom panel in the substation.

Control Room Control room contain panels, meters, control switches and recorders located in the control building, also called the dog house.

Capacitor Bank The capacitor bank provides reactive power at grid substation. Benefits of using the capacitor bank 1 .Increased voltage level at the load. 2. Reduced system losses.

Battery Room The batteries used are lead acid type having a solution of sulphuric acid and distilled water as electrolytes In charged state, it has a specific gravity of 1.2 at temperature of 30C.

Thank You
