SHRINE Noun - any place or object hallowed by its history or associations: a historic shrine. Synonyms: sanctum; holy or sacred place Example: The last time I shopped at Von Maur, I noticed a shrine which honored those who were killed there several years ago.

MYTHICAL Adjective – of or relating to a story or legend, particularly one that contains deities Synonyms: fabled; legendary Example: The Titans easily won the mythical city championship after defeating St. Albert.

OUTRAGEOUS Adjective – beyond reasonable limits Synonyms: excessive; preposterous Example: Some people spend an outrageous amount of time texting their friends and family; it really isn’t necessary.

BENEVOLENT Adjective – charitable; kind Synonyms: generous; altruistic Example: Because of the benevolent actions of the anonymous donors, the flood victims were able to have food and shelter.

GARRULOUS Adjective – talkative; chatty Synonyms: verbose; loquacious The teacher assigned the garrulous student a seat far away from his friends in the hope that he would not talk so much.

DEPRIVATION Noun – the act of removing or withholding something from the enjoyment or possession of a person Synonyms: distress, hardship, disadvantage Example: The teenager who suffered from sleep deprivation could not stay awake in his first period class.

UNWITTINGLY Adverb – ignorantly; unknowingly Synonym: accidentally Example: The new student unwittingly parked his car in a space reserved for teachers.

VISCOUS Adjective – of a glutinous nature; sticky; thick Synonym: slimy Example: Crossing the garage floor, I stepped in a viscous substance; I didn’t know if it was motor oil, but it sure was sticky.

OGRE Noun – a monstrously ugly, cruel, or barbarous person Synonyms: demon; devil; fiend Example: That ogre kept the kidnapped girl in an underground hole in his backyard for months and frequently tortured her by telling her he would let her go, but never doing it.

ENTITY Noun – something that has a real existence; a thing Synonyms: individual, quintessence Example: When I saw the shadow move beyond the trees, I knew I was not the only entity in the forest.
